Rescue teams in Nepal and Tibet face mounting challenges as the death toll from catastrophic flash floods rises to 469 with over 1,500 people missing.

Emergency teams in Nepal and Tibet are continuing search and rescue operations following catastrophic flash floods along the Himalayan border. Nepalese authorities reported that the domestic death toll has reached at least 469, while Chinese officials reported three fatalities in Tibet. Over 1,500 people remain missing across the region, including hundreds of foreign nationals from Britain, Australia, India, Malaysia, Ukraine, and the United States.

The flooding began on Wednesday after a massive collapse of mud and rock triggered sudden torrents along a shared border river. The resulting surge destroyed essential infrastructure, including roads, bridges, power facilities, and entire settlements, severely hindering access to remote communities. Rescue personnel face ongoing challenges from extensive road damage and the persistent threat of secondary landslides. Search operations remain active on both sides of the border, particularly in Tibet's Gyirong sector.
