Rescuers are searching for more than 1,500 missing people after catastrophic flash floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border, with the Nepali death toll rising to 469.

Rescue operations are continuing along the Himalayan border between Nepal and Tibet following catastrophic flash floods triggered by a massive mud and rock collapse into a river. The disaster destroyed infrastructure, homes, and hydroelectric projects across the region.

Casualty estimates varied across media reports as the situation unfolded. Nepali police updated the domestic death toll to 469, while Chinese authorities previously reported three fatalities in Tibet. Officials estimate that more than 1,500 people remain missing, including hundreds of foreign nationals from countries such as Britain, Australia, India, and the United States.

Search efforts remain severely complicated by destroyed roads and the ongoing threat of further flooding and secondary landslides. Emergency teams on both sides of the border are working to locate survivors in remote terrain.
