Military experts at the Sarajevo Security Conference warned of growing drone threats as Bosnia and Herzegovina announced plans to open two new defense production plants.

The fourth Sarajevo Security Conference convened military leaders, diplomats, and security experts in Bosnia and Herzegovina to examine key challenges facing European defense.

During the event, EUROCONTROL Major General Karsten Stoye identified low-altitude uncrewed aerial systems as the primary emerging threat to European airspace safety over the next five years. Additionally, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten emphasized the growing necessity of integrating uncrewed maritime surface vessels and artificial intelligence into modern naval strategy.

Alongside the security discussions, officials at the First Balkan Shield 2026 defense exhibition in Sarajevo announced an expansion of domestic military production. Government representatives confirmed that national arms output has doubled over the past three years and announced plans to open two new manufacturing plants to reinforce defense capabilities and boost exports.
