Russia intensified strikes on Kyiv and Ukraine's energy grid, while EU leaders warned Moscow after German authorities linked an explosive drone plot in Leipzig to Russian operatives.

Russian forces launched additional overnight drone attacks against Kyiv, injuring at least one person as Moscow escalated strikes following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's address to the United Nations General Assembly. The Russian Ministry of Defense formally confirmed a strategic initiative aimed at crippling Ukraine's power grid and energy infrastructure.

In response, Ukrainian long-range strikes targeted Russian petroleum refineries, disrupting domestic supplies and obligating Moscow to purchase fuel abroad.

Meanwhile, security concerns heightened in Western Europe after German authorities linked two suspects in an explosive drone plot in Leipzig directly to Moscow. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared that the bloc "will not tolerate attacks on EU soil" and warned of potential countermeasures.
