Emergency teams in Nepal and Tibet search for over 1,000 missing people after a catastrophic glacial collapse caused severe flash floods.

Emergency responders in Nepal and Tibet are continuing search operations following catastrophic flash floods caused by a glacial collapse along the Himalayan border. Casualty figures remain fluid, with reports indicating between 165 and over 175 deaths in Nepal, alongside three confirmed fatalities in Tibet.

Search teams are attempting to locate over 1,000 missing individuals, including several hundred foreign tourists from nations such as India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Ukraine. The force of the mud and rock torrent was so intense that seismologists initially recorded the event as an earthquake.

Disaster management teams on both sides of the border face severe obstacles due to destroyed roads, thick mud, and damaged communications infrastructure, particularly near the Gyirong crossing.
