Portugal's parliament has rejected a motion of no confidence brought by Chega against the minority government after Socialists abstained.

Portugal's parliament has rejected a motion of no confidence introduced by the far-right Chega party against the country's minority government.

The measure failed after governing parties voted against it while the main opposition Socialist Party abstained. During the debate, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro affirmed that the executive operates without a "preferential partner" in parliament, adding that citizens would render a political judgment on Chega's actions. Cabinet officials concluded the session by criticizing Chega for tabling the motion and the Socialists for their abstention.
