Portugal's parliament rejects a censure motion brought by the far-right Chega party against the minority government following abstention by the Socialist Party.

Portugal's parliament has officially rejected a motion of censure submitted by the far-right Chega party against the governing minority coalition. The proposal failed following a three-hour debate after the opposition Socialist Party (PS) abstained, guaranteeing the motion's defeat.

The censure motion focused on controversies involving Internal Administration Minister Margarida Blasco. During closing arguments, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro criticized Chega for pursuing a measure destined for defeat, while scolding the Socialists for failing to vote against it. Leitão Amaro remarked that the public would make a "political judgment" regarding Chega's strategy. Government officials maintained that the executive will continue negotiating legislation on a case-by-case basis without designating a preferred parliamentary partner.
