Recent German political developments highlight a growing polling lead for the AfD, falling asylum numbers, and sharp debates over national security policy.

Germany's domestic political landscape faces ongoing debates over security, asylum policy, and party strategy. According to the latest Deutschlandtrend poll reported by DW, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) expanded its lead over the CDU/CSU alliance, accompanied by increasing public openness toward case-by-case cooperation with the party. Meanwhile, a commentary in Der Spiegel warned that mainstream political parties remain dangerously fixated on the AfD instead of addressing core policy issues.

On security matters, Green politician Konstantin von Notz criticized Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt regarding recent drone findings, claiming, "So ermutigt man die Russen nur." Additionally, Die Zeit characterized the National Security Council's progress as moving in "Superzeitlupe" as its first anniversary approaches.

Separately, Interior Ministry statistics reported by Tagesschau indicated first-time asylum applications plummeted to 4,311 in July, down almost 50% compared to the previous year.
