France's Constitutional Council has validated legislation on assisted dying while rejecting a proposed social media ban for minors under 15.

France’s Constitutional Council has approved legislation establishing a conditional right to assisted dying while striking down a ban on social media access for children under 15.

The court ruled that parliament holds authority over major societal reforms, provided constitutional rights are preserved. To address ethical concerns, the council issued three interpretative reservations, including a conscience clause permitting healthcare and faith-based institutions to refuse to perform end-of-life procedures. The court also validated emergency agricultural legislation.

However, the council invalidated the central provision of a separate bill attempting to ban social media for under-15s, determining that a general prohibition disproportionately restricts constitutional freedoms. President Emmanuel Macron commended the council's decision on assisted dying, stating that it completes an "débat démocratique exemplaire".
