France's Constitutional Council validated the country's assisted dying legislation while rejecting a proposed social media ban for under-15s.

France’s Constitutional Council has validated legislation establishing a conditional right to assisted dying alongside emergency agricultural measures, while striking down a proposed ban on social media for minors under 15.

The constitutional court ruled that it would not overrule parliamentary judgment on major societal issues, but introduced three interpretative reservations. These include guaranteeing a conscience clause allowing healthcare facilities, including religious institutions, to opt out of performing assisted dying procedures.

Conversely, the court invalidated the primary clause prohibiting social media access for children under 15, holding that a general ban disproportionately restricts personal freedoms.

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the validation of the end-of-life legislation, stating that it "parachève un débat démocratique exemplaire".
