France's Constitutional Council has validated landmark assisted dying legislation with conscience reservations while striking down a proposed social media ban for minors under 15.

France's Constitutional Council has confirmed the validity of legislation establishing a right to assisted dying while striking down a proposed social media ban for users under 15.

The constitutional judges declared the end-of-life framework compliant with fundamental rights, noting that judicial authorities cannot replace parliamentary deliberation on major societal reforms. To address institutional concerns, the court attached interpretive reservations safeguarding conscience protections for individual practitioners and private medical facilities. The ruling clears the path for the statute's official enactment.

Separately, the court invalidated the core provision of legislation aimed at barring minors under 15 from social media platforms, ruling that the sweeping ban was disproportionately broad. The council also upheld provisions of an emergency agricultural measure reviewed alongside the other texts.
