Targeted curfews brought relative calm to French cities following severe weekend unrest, as President Macron retained his interior minister despite security lapses.

French authorities report a calmer night across major cities following the implementation of localized overnight curfews designed to curb widespread unrest. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu instructed regional prefects to enforce partial restrictions in targeted urban areas, including parts of Paris and Marseille, after weekend demonstrations over living standards devolved into looting and rioting. More than 2,400 people have been arrested nationwide.

Lecornu attributed much of the violence to "extreme-left" groups and criminal networks, warning that a state of emergency remains under consideration. Meanwhile, President Emmanuel Macron rejected a resignation offer from Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. Although Macron acknowledged security "failures" during the height of the clashes, Nuñez will remain in office to oversee police operations.
