French cities reported a calmer night following the implementation of targeted curfews in response to weekend rioting and over 2,400 arrests.

Targeted overnight curfews in select urban districts across France led to a calmer night following widespread weekend rioting and looting, according to Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. The localized restrictions were instituted in specific areas, including parts of central Paris and Marseille, to curb violence that erupted during nationwide demonstrations over living costs and educational standards.

Lecornu attributed the destruction to "extreme-left" groups and criminal elements, warning that broader emergency measures remain an option if unrest continues. Meanwhile, President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged operational "failures" after police briefly lost control during peak clashes, resulting in over 2,400 arrests nationwide. Despite these lapses, Macron rejected a resignation offer from Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, keeping him in post to oversee ongoing security operations.
