French authorities deployed military forces and banned unauthorized protests following nationwide cost-of-living riots that led to nearly 2,400 arrests.

French authorities have restored relative calm using overnight curfews following nationwide cost-of-living demonstrations that resulted in nearly 2,400 detentions and extensive property damage.

To prevent renewed violence ahead of upcoming weekend gatherings, President Emmanuel Macron instructed local authorities to ban all unauthorized demonstrations, making an exception solely for union-organized rallies. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced a substantial security operation incorporating military personnel alongside police forces to maintain order in major urban centers.

Concurrently, European Union regulators are examining potential foreign online interference. Officials suspect pro-Russian and far-right social media accounts of deliberately circulating footage of arson and looting to exacerbate public distress across the continent.
