French authorities imposed curfews and announced a military deployment following weekend cost-of-living riots that led to nearly 2,400 arrests across the country.

French authorities restored relative calm on Tuesday by implementing night curfews in parts of Paris and other major cities following intense weekend unrest over cost-of-living concerns. Almost 2,400 individuals were detained across the country as protests turned violent, damaging historic landmarks and impacting hundreds of local businesses.

French intelligence services identified radical far-left groups working alongside youths from disadvantaged neighborhoods as the primary instigators of the violence. In response, European Union regulators opened an inquiry into potential pro-Russian online disinformation networks suspected of amplifying social media coverage of the riots. To prevent further escalation during upcoming demonstrations on Saturday, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced a massive security deployment that includes military personnel.
