European nations prepare for another intense heatwave as record temperatures and thousands of excess deaths are reported across the continent.

A fourth heatwave is sweeping across Southern and Western Europe, pushing temperatures toward 40 degrees Celsius and triggering widespread emergency measures. Italian health authorities issued top-level red alerts for all 27 major cities as extreme heat is expected to persist for another week. The prolonged weather conditions have already been linked to several fatalities in Italy.

Across the continent, record-breaking conditions continue to disrupt daily life. Austria registered an all-time high temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna, while French health officials reported more than 7,300 excess deaths during 52 heatwave days between May and July. As persistent drought and wildfire risks remain elevated, both France and the United Kingdom are preparing for further extreme temperatures.
