Donald Trump urges Ukraine and Russia to negotiate end to war before winter

US President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a negotiated agreement to end the war before winter.

Following a meeting in the United States, Zelensky described the talks as "positive" and noted on social media that both Washington and Kyiv share the goal of halting the conflict. Meanwhile, Trump reported having a constructive telephone discussion with Putin, expressing confidence that the Russian leader is open to peace talks. Trump stressed that both parties must reach a compromise, stating, "He wants a deal and, if Zelensky wants a deal, it would be great."

As diplomatic activity accelerates, Ukrainian officials emphasize that any peace settlement must protect the country's sovereignty.
