Trump urges Kyiv and Moscow to reach peace deal before winter

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have expressed a shared goal to conclude the war between Russia and Ukraine before the upcoming winter, following discussions in Washington. Zelensky described the meeting as "positive and productive," noting that both administrations aim to halt the conflict in the near future.

Trump stated that both sides must enter negotiations, emphasizing his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to negotiate following a recent telephone call between the two leaders. "He wants a deal and, if Zelensky wants a deal, it would be great," Trump remarked, adding that he wishes to see both leaders reach an agreement. While Kyiv maintains that any resolution must uphold Ukrainian national sovereignty, the US administration is continuing its push for a negotiated settlement to end hostilities.
