Rescue efforts intensify along the Nepal-Tibet border as the death toll rises and over 1,000 people remain missing after a catastrophic glacial collapse.

Search and rescue operations have intensified along the Nepal-Tibet border after a severe glacial collapse triggered destructive flash floods on Wednesday. The death toll in Nepal has risen to between 165 and over 175 people, with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV confirming three fatalities in Tibet.

Authorities report that more than 1,000 people remain unaccounted for across both regions, including over 500 in Tibet and hundreds of foreign nationals in Nepal. Torrential mud and rock wiped out entire villages, bridges, and power facilities, with seismologists noting the torrent initially registered with the force of an earthquake.

Rescuers continue to navigate deep mud and severed transport links near key border crossings like Gyirong to reach isolated survivors.
