Cross-border strikes between Russia and Ukraine have inflicted heavy casualties as an Italian naval vessel intercepted a Russian shadow fleet tanker off Sicily.

Cross-border strikes between Russian and Ukrainian forces have intensified, resulting in significant casualties and maritime incidents. Russian aerial attacks on Kyiv and surrounding areas killed at least 17 people and injured dozens more, while guided glide bombs struck residential areas in Zaporizhzhia. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated appeals for Western air defence systems, stating that Moscow has deployed three air defence rings around Moscow and Saint Petersburg to counter Ukrainian drones.

Ukrainian counter-strikes hit targets across Belgorod, Crimea, and the Black Sea coast near Gelendzhik. In the Mediterranean, an Italian naval vessel intercepted a suspected Russian shadow fleet oil tanker off Pantelleria. Diplomatic discussions over Western military assistance also continued, with United States political figures expressing caution regarding the proposed local manufacture of Patriot missile systems in Ukraine.
