Berlin equips four high-risk suspects with ankle monitors as CDU pension debate persists

Berlin police fit electronic ankle monitors on four Islamist threats while CDU lawmaker Pascal Reddig defends proposed pension reforms.
Berlin authorities have placed electronic ankle monitors on four individuals classified as high-risk Islamist threats following a recent terror plot targeted near the city's Christopher Street Day parade. A local court approved the measure to enhance police surveillance over the suspects.
Simultaneously, internal friction within Germany's conservative CDU/CSU alliance over pension reform continues. Christian Democratic Union lawmaker Pascal Reddig publicly rejected calls from several CDU state minister-presidents to alter proposed pension adjustments. Reddig urged the party to adopt the expert advisory panel's recommendations as a complete package without selective modifications. Meanwhile, Christian Social Union leader Markus Söder reaffirmed his support for CDU Chairman Friedrich Merz as the alliance's candidate for chancellor.
