Political scientist Alpo Rusi details KGB pressure and threats directed at former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa during the late Cold War era.

Political scientist Alpo Rusi has detailed Soviet intelligence activities targeting former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa during a pivotal transition period in late 20th-century Finnish politics. Writing in a guest column for Iltalehti, Rusi examined the political pressure and threats directed at Liinamaa, who died unexpectedly in 1980 while serving as national conciliator.

According to Rusi, KGB agents sought to influence domestic power structures as the era of long-serving President Urho Kekkonen neared its end. Liinamaa reportedly revealed these intimidation tactics to foreign diplomats shortly before his death. Rusi's analysis sheds light on covert foreign interference aimed at shaping Finland's leadership succession during the Cold War.
