Political scientist Alpo Rusi has detailed Soviet threats made against former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa in late 1980, revealing new insights into Cold War influence in Helsinki.

Political scientist Alpo Rusi has provided further details on Soviet intelligence operations targeting Finnish political figures during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing in a column for Iltalehti, Rusi examined the historical backdrop surrounding Keijo Liinamaa, who served as Finland's national conciliator and headed an emergency caretaker government in 1975.

According to Rusi, Liinamaa faced threats from Soviet operatives prior to his sudden death in December 1980. The intimidation tactics were reportedly designed to shape Finland's domestic political landscape and labor policies as President Urho Kekkonen's era neared its end. Rusi emphasized that Moscow actively sought to control presidential succession dynamics and maintain leverage over Helsinki's key decision-makers.
