Zelensky rejects Trump's energy truce claims as Ukraine resumes refinery strikes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's claims of an energy truce, confirming strikes on Russian refineries will resume.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy truce to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. Trump attributed rising global fuel prices to the conflict's energy disruptions. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected claims of a lasting agreement, clarifying that Kyiv had only observed a three-day pause on targeting Russian oil refineries following a request from Washington.
Zelensky stated that "we are done" with restraint after Russian forces continued bombarding Ukraine’s power grid during the pause. Consequently, Kyiv announced that strikes on Russian energy targets will resume. Meanwhile, the Kremlin rejected temporary ceasefire proposals, offering a counter-proposal instead, as the European Union imposed new sanctions against Russia.
