Turkish rights groups release August gender-based violence data as Siirt murder trial moves forward
Turkish rights groups released August gender-based violence statistics while a court in Siirt accepted an indictment charging five suspects over a 2024 femicide.
Turkish rights organisations and media outlets have updated statistics on gender-based violence in August. Data compiled by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform recorded 22 femicides and 33 suspicious female deaths, noting that 55 percent of victims were killed inside their homes. Separately, news outlet Bianet documented at least 25 women killed and 71 injured across Turkey over the same period.
Concurrently, judicial proceedings progressed in Siirt, where the 1st High Criminal Court accepted an indictment charging five individuals in connection with the 2024 disappearance and death of a mother of four. State prosecutors relied on digital footprints, telecommunication records, and license plate tracking data to establish the victim's murder following a long-running investigation.
