Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado has made her first public appearance in Venezuela after nearly ten months in exile. Machado re-emerged on Sunday at the sanctuary of the Divina Pastora in Barquisimeto alongside thousands of worshippers following a diplomatic effort to facilitate her entry.

Her return follows multiple previous attempts to re-enter the country, which remains under Chavista governance despite the departure of former president Nicolás Maduro. Reacting to her arrival, U.S. President Donald Trump commented, "I hope she is safe, she is a very nice woman," while emphasizing current U.S. relations with Venezuela.
