EU extends sanctions on Russia amid ongoing strikes and diplomatic developments
The EU extended sanctions on Russia after a border train strike, while U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Moscow and Kyiv agreed to stop targeting energy infrastructure.
The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia following a strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the incident, stating it aimed to intimidate European states and create division.
Simultaneously, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Moscow and Kyiv have agreed to stop targeting energy infrastructure. However, combat operations remain active. Shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region resulted in two deaths and 14 injuries, while Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia's Sochi and Belgorod regions reportedly injured seven people. In domestic governance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued an executive decree removing the country's prosecutor general from office.
