Ukraine targets Russian energy infrastructure amid escalating strikes
Ukrainian drones targeted Russian export sites while Russian attacks inflicted civilian casualties in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia, as UN officials warned of rising civilian casualties.
Ukrainian long-range strikes targeted Russian export and energy facilities in the Rostov, Yaroslavl, and Udmurtia regions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed an attack on an export terminal located roughly 250 kilometres from the front line. Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that air defences intercepted 12 drones heading toward the capital, causing flight disruptions at local airports.
Concurrently, Russian shelling and drone attacks escalated across eastern Ukraine. Authorities in Dnipropetrovsk reported over 50 strikes that killed three people and injured six. In Zaporizhzhia, a drone strike on a commercial location wounded four civilians, including two children.
At the UN Security Council, UN official Kayoko Gotoh reported a sharp increase in Ukrainian civilian casualties during July, including 56 killed and 232 injured in Kyiv.
