The US Supreme Court has temporarily paused a lower court injunction, allowing construction on a $400 million White House ballroom to proceed while justices review the case.

The US Supreme Court has temporarily permitted construction to continue on a planned $400 million ballroom at the White House complex.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued an administrative order pausing an earlier lower court ruling that had halted substantial portions of the project. The decision allows the administration of President Donald Trump to proceed with building work while the justices review an emergency application regarding the dispute. The construction project remains subject to a legal challenge brought by a heritage preservation organisation concerning oversight and regulatory compliance.
