The US Supreme Court has temporarily lifted a lower court injunction, allowing construction of a $400 million White House ballroom to continue while judges review the case.

The US Supreme Court has temporarily cleared the way for the Trump administration to resume construction on a $400 million ballroom at the White House.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued an order pausing a lower court injunction that had previously halted the project. A five-justice conservative majority indicated that the administration has reasonable prospects of having the lawsuit, brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, dismissed.

The Supreme Court emphasized that this interim measure does not constitute a final judgment on the legality of the construction project. Instead, the decision grants the justices additional time to evaluate the federal government's emergency application while litigation remains ongoing.
