The US Supreme Court has temporarily paused a lower court order halting construction on a $400 million ballroom at the White House.

The United States Supreme Court has temporarily permitted the Trump administration to move forward with the construction of a $400 million ballroom at the White House complex. In a brief administrative order signed by Chief Justice John Roberts, the high court paused a lower court's directive that had halted a major portion of the development.

The temporary measure gives the justices additional time to evaluate a formal emergency application submitted by the federal government. The construction had been suspended following a lawsuit brought by a historic preservation group seeking to halt work on the executive grounds. The interim ruling allows preliminary work on the controversial project to continue while legal proceedings remain ongoing.
