The US Supreme Court has granted a temporary stay allowing construction on a $400 million White House ballroom to proceed while legal challenges are evaluated.

The United States Supreme Court has granted a temporary administrative stay, permitting construction to proceed on a $400 million ballroom at the White House while justices evaluate a legal challenge.

The brief order, issued by Chief Justice John Roberts, temporarily freezes a lower court injunction that had halted major portions of the construction project. The administrative stay provides the Supreme Court with additional time to consider an emergency petition filed by the Trump administration.

The multi-million-dollar development project remains the subject of an ongoing lawsuit brought by a historic preservation organization seeking to halt permanent alterations to the historic presidential residence.
