The US Supreme Court has temporarily paused an injunction, allowing $400 million White House ballroom construction to proceed during ongoing legal challenges.

The United States Supreme Court has allowed construction to move forward on a $400 million ballroom at the White House while legal challenges remain pending.

In an emergency ruling, a five-justice conservative majority temporarily paused a lower court's injunction that had halted work on the project. The lawsuit, brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, contends that the planned expansion damages the historical architecture of the presidential estate. Chief Justice John Roberts clarified that the temporary order gives the high court time to evaluate the administration's appeal and does not reflect a final ruling on the project's legality.

With physical work authorized to resume, legal experts indicate the structural shell of the ballroom could be finished before lower courts deliver a definitive judgment on the preservation challenge.
