The US Supreme Court has temporarily lifted a lower court injunction, allowing construction on the White House ballroom to resume.

The United States Supreme Court has granted permission for construction to proceed on the proposed $400 million ballroom at the White House while legal appeals continue.

In a brief emergency ruling, a five-justice conservative majority on the high court temporarily paused an injunction previously issued by a lower tribunal. The National Trust for Historic Preservation had challenged the project, arguing it threatens the presidential estate's historical architecture. While Chief Justice John Roberts clarified that the ruling does not determine the ultimate legality of the construction, it allows initial structural work to advance uninterrupted. Legal experts note that the physical framework of the building could be substantially completed before lower courts deliver a definitive judgment on the preservation group's lawsuit.
