The US Supreme Court has allowed temporary third-country deportations while UN experts call for an immediate halt following revelations of undisclosed foreign transfers.

The United States Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to temporarily continue deporting migrants to third countries while lower court legal challenges proceed. The ruling comes after a joint investigation by Forbidden Stories and The Guardian disclosed that at least 25,447 migrants were transferred to 28 non-native nations under non-transparent bilateral agreements.

State Department documents indicate approximately 20,000 individuals were sent to Mexico by bus, while over 5,000 were flown to unfamiliar countries. Several deportees had previously received legal protections from US immigration courts recognizing risks to their life or freedom.

In response, more than a dozen United Nations human rights experts urged Washington to halt the practice, citing risks of abuse and persecution. The Supreme Court will consider whether migrants must receive hearing rights before deportation.
