The US Supreme Court allowed third-country deportations to continue as a media probe revealed 25,000 migrants were deported under secret deals, prompting UN experts to call for a halt.

The U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily allowed the Trump administration to continue expedited deportations of migrants to third countries while judges evaluate the policy's legality. The justices will review whether asylum seekers must receive an opportunity to contest their removal before being sent to nations where they have no ties.

The ruling comes as an investigation led by Forbidden Stories revealed that at least 25,447 individuals were deported to 28 third countries under confidential agreements. Around 20,000 migrants were moved by bus to Mexico, while over 5,000 were flown to foreign destinations, including individuals previously acknowledged as facing persecution risks.

Following the findings, over a dozen UN human rights experts urged Washington to halt the practice, warning deportees face severe risks of abuse and torture.
