US Supreme Court allows White House ballroom construction to proceed temporarily

The US Supreme Court has temporarily lifted a lower court's injunction, permitting construction to proceed on a $400 million ballroom at the White House complex.

Chief Justice John Roberts granted an administrative stay following an emergency appeal by President Donald Trump’s administration. The order gives the high court additional time to review the administration’s petition to keep construction active while a legal challenge from historic preservation advocates proceeds. Preservation groups contend that the large-scale project harms the architectural integrity of the historic executive grounds.

The planned expansion forms part of Trump's broader initiative to renovate and redesign federal structures across the capital. A more comprehensive ruling on the administration's emergency request is expected once the justices fully review the filings.
