The US Supreme Court has temporarily paused a lower court injunction, allowing construction of a $400 million ballroom at the White House to proceed while legal appeals continue.

The US Supreme Court has temporarily permitted the Trump administration to resume construction on a planned $400 million ballroom on the White House grounds.

In a brief order issued by Chief Justice John Roberts, the tribunal paused a lower court injunction that had previously halted major portions of the development. The temporary stay grants the justices additional time to deliberate on an official petition filed by the federal government requesting that work continue while legal challenges from a historic preservation group proceed through the court system.

The project remains the subject of ongoing litigation regarding heritage protection standards and federal expenditure oversight. The high court's order allows initial site work to move forward until a definitive judicial decision is reached on the government's stay application.
