The US Supreme Court has temporarily cleared the way for construction to continue on a $400 million ballroom at the White House amid ongoing litigation.

The US Supreme Court has permitted construction to resume on a controversial $400 million ballroom at the White House while a legal challenge proceeds. In a 5–4 decision split along ideological lines, the conservative majority granted an emergency request from the administration, temporarily lifting a lower court injunction that had halted the project.

The lawsuit, brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, claims the development violates historic preservation regulations. The Supreme Court noted that the government demonstrated a strong likelihood of ultimate success in the legal dispute. However, justices emphasized that the temporary stay allows structural work to move forward during appeals without constituting a final ruling on the lawsuit's legal merits.
