The US Supreme Court has issued an emergency stay allowing construction on the White House ballroom to continue while judges review a preservation lawsuit.

The United States Supreme Court has temporarily permitted the Trump administration to proceed with the construction of a $400 million ballroom on the White House grounds. Chief Justice John Roberts granted an emergency stay on Friday, halting a lower court order that had blocked major portions of the development project following a lawsuit brought by a historic preservation group.

The temporary order buys the justices additional time to evaluate a formal appeal from the executive branch. Federal attorneys had requested permission to maintain ongoing work at the presidential complex while broader judicial reviews into heritage compliance remain pending before the court.
