The US Supreme Court has temporarily cleared the way for construction to continue on a $400 million White House ballroom while legal challenges proceed.

The United States Supreme Court has allowed construction to temporarily proceed on President Donald Trump's planned $400 million White House ballroom while legal disputes continue.

In a 5–4 emergency decision, Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily lifted a lower court injunction that had halted the project. The order gives the Supreme Court time to evaluate an application from the US administration. A lower court had suspended building work following a suit by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which contends the development breaches historic preservation laws.

Although the conservative majority indicated the administration stands a strong chance of prevailing, the justices emphasized that the interim decision does not represent a final ruling on the project's legality.
