The US Supreme Court has temporarily allowed construction to proceed on a $400 million ballroom at the White House while legal appeals continue.

The US Supreme Court has temporarily cleared the way for construction to resume on a $400 million ballroom at the White House complex. In a 5–4 decision, the conservative majority paused a lower court injunction, allowing building crews to continue structural work while legal challenges proceed.

The lawsuit, brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, seeks to halt the project over historic preservation concerns. Chief Justice John Roberts issued the temporary order to allow the court additional time to deliberate on the emergency petition filed by the administration. Justices emphasized that the interim ruling does not represent a final verdict on the legality of the construction. With the hold lifted, preliminary framing and core structural work may be largely completed before a definitive judicial ruling is reached.
