US envoys arrive for peace talks as regional fighting persists in Ukraine and Russia

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Kyiv and Moscow for peace negotiations, coinciding with reports that Ukrainian troops received orders for a four-day operational pause.

Despite an agreement between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt strikes on capital cities, regional clashes continued overnight. Violent incidents were reported across Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Belgorod, and Sochi, resulting in multiple casualties. US President Donald Trump stated that both nations agreed to refrain from targeting energy infrastructure. However, Zelensky clarified that Ukraine's adherence depends on Western allies guaranteeing Russian compliance regarding energy, infrastructure, and supply routes.

Meanwhile, European Union officials denounced a Russian attack on a train near the Polish border, labeling it an attempt at intimidation. Separately, Zelensky issued a decree dismissing Ukraine's prosecutor general.
