The EU extended sanctions against Moscow following a train attack near the Polish border, as Donald Trump announced an energy strike pause agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

European Union leaders extended sanctions against Moscow following a Russian strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, which EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned as an attempt to intimidate European allies. The diplomatic escalation coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump announcing that Russia and Ukraine agreed to temporarily halt attacks on energy infrastructure. Despite these announcements, combat operations persist. Local authorities reported that Russian shelling in Kherson killed two people and injured 14 others, while Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia's Belgorod region and Sochi injured seven people. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a decree removing the country's prosecutor general.
