US ambassador to Greece faces scrutiny over $6 billion Albanian energy deal

A Wall Street Journal investigation highlights US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle's role in assisting a Greek company to secure a $6 billion gas deal in Albania.
A Wall Street Journal investigation has detailed the involvement of US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle in assisting Greek infrastructure firm Aktor to secure a $6 billion gas supply contract in Albania.
According to the report, Guilfoyle traveled to Tirana alongside energy lobbyist Christos Marafatsos and corporate executives for a meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. One month after the preliminary discussions, Guilfoyle returned to the capital for the formal contract signing.
The findings have raised broader questions regarding the alignment of official American diplomatic advocacy with private lobbying and the expansion of Greek energy interests across the Western Balkans.
