Ukrainian lawmakers prepare to vote on Yevhen Khmara as Defence Minister, while new army chief Mychajlo Drapatyj reshapes military command structures.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially submitted a proposal to parliament to appoint Yevhen Khmara as Defence Minister, with lawmakers scheduled to vote on Wednesday. The Verkhovna Rada will also vote on confirming Andrii Sybiha as Foreign Minister. Khmara, the former head of Ukraine's security service, had been serving as acting defence minister following the dismissal of Mychajlo Fedorov.

Fedorov, whose removal sparked public criticism, has called for national elections during the ongoing war, alleging that Ukraine is suffering from corruption and a "governance crisis."

Concurrently, newly appointed Commander-in-Chief Mychajlo Drapatyj has initiated significant structural reforms within the armed forces. Drapatyj’s effort focuses on dismantling informal patronage networks and reorganizing military command systems established under previous leadership to improve battlefield efficiency.
