Ukraine's parliament will vote on appointing Yevhen Khmara as defence minister, while new army chief Mykhailo Drapatyj restructures the military hierarchy.

Ukrainian lawmakers are scheduled to vote on Wednesday on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s nomination of former intelligence chief Yevhen Khmara as Defence Minister, alongside confirming Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The parliamentary vote comes in the wake of public backlash following the dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov, who has publicly criticized government corruption and called for wartime national elections amid a governance crisis.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyj has initiated a sweeping restructuring of the armed forces command structure. Drapatyj, known for his 2014 operational leadership in Mariupol, is working to dismantle parallel patronage networks left by previous leadership and streamline internal military management. The organizational overhaul aims to resolve ongoing friction and systemic issues across the armed forces hierarchy.
