Ukrainian front-line farmers take up arms to defend agricultural operations

Ukrainian agricultural workers near active combat zones are adopting active defense measures to protect farms and grain exports from Russian drone attacks.
Ukrainian agricultural workers operating near active front lines are taking up weapons alongside their daily duties to protect farms from Russian attacks. Viktor Hordienko, an agricultural logistics specialist who previously coordinated international grain shipments across Europe and Asia, now uses a shotgun to defend his farm against incoming hostile drones.
The ongoing conflict has forced front-line agricultural personnel to combine farming with active defense measures. Managers and workers face persistent aerial threats, requiring them to safeguard critical infrastructure, grain supplies, and equipment directly at the combat border to ensure operational continuity and maintain national food security.
