Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has nominated Yevhen Khmara as Defence Minister, as military chief Mychajlo Drapatyj begins restructuring armed forces command.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially submitted a proposal to parliament to appoint former intelligence chief Yevhen Khmara as Defence Minister, with a vote scheduled alongside the confirmation of Andrii Sybiha as Foreign Minister. Khmara's nomination follows the dismissal of Mychajlo Fedorov, a decision that triggered public backlash and protests.

Following his removal, Fedorov publicly criticized systemic military management and called for holding national elections despite the ongoing war, citing widespread corruption and a governance crisis. Simultaneously, newly appointed Commander-in-Chief Mychajlo Drapatyj has begun dismantling informal patronage networks and restructuring command structures established under previous military leadership to improve operational effectiveness across the armed forces.
