Ukraine is expanding domestic weapons manufacturing, including ballistic missiles and guided bomb kits, to mitigate critical air defense shortages and foreign supply delays.

Ukraine is accelerating efforts to manufacture indigenous weaponry as it faces severe air defense shortages and increasing Russian ballistic missile strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cautioned that establishing local production of U.S.-designed Patriot defense systems could take between one and several years, citing bureaucratic obstacles and complex licensing protocols.

To address immediate defense gaps, domestic defense firms are pursuing alternative solutions. Manufacturer DG Industry recently finalized testing on its "Equalizer" guidance kit, designed to convert standard aerial bombs into long-range precision munitions. Additionally, two Ukrainian enterprises are developing indigenous ballistic missiles, though technical challenges currently impede immediate mass production. Ukrainian commentators emphasize that strengthening domestic arms production is vital to reducing reliance on Western military aid while countering ongoing air attacks on critical infrastructure.
